Project/event description:

Come find out about Out of Eden Learn, a unique online learning community designed to accompany Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Paul Salopek’s nine-year Out of Eden Walk and experiment in “slow journalism”. An initiative of Project Zero at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Out of Eden Learn clusters diverse classes from around the world to undergo a “learning journey” together. Young people complete bi-weekly activities, post their responses, and read and respond to others’ posts. Our community is open to all schools and students, free of charge. To date over 10,000 students from over 40 different countries have participated in Out of Eden Learn. Out of Eden Learn addresses challenges of our times: the need for intercultural exchange; the need to slow down to look closely at the world and to listen attentively to others’ stories; and the need to make connections between our own lives and bigger, unfolding human stories. Our program encourages young people to develop the awareness, capacity, and inclination to engage with one another and the world. This Hangout will simulate some of the activities that educators and students engage in as part of the Out of Eden Learn, as well as provide more general information about our program. The session will be suitable for educators who are unfamiliar with Out of Eden Learn as well as those already participating in our program.
